I started 2013 with a bankroll of $294. Up to this point I have utilized my bankroll for cash games, tournaments, and on a much lower level, sports betting. So to that end I feel that there are too many things to be going on with a single bankroll covering all 3. Not only that, I could have enough to grind $10NL, but losses in other areas could bring me out of that ability to play a specific level. So I have decided to go with separate bankrolls.
So yesterday I decided to try another sports bet. Obviously I am not too good at these things. Football I think I would do well overall, but not the other sports, so I decided just a few more tries until football season starts up again. After I placed the bet my bankroll was $275, but since I already have played tournaments and cash games I have to base the separate bankrolls on what my roll was at the end of January and that was $349.41. So let's say 40 buy-ins for the cash games which is $160. For tournaments, $159.41, and what the hell, $30 for Sports betting so after my $5 loss yesterday I have 3 more tries at it.
Now for the bad news and I know my readers are going to get whiplash watching me go back and forth and I am by no means happy about this, but I have been forced back into 6 max cash games again. So much for being comfortable and at ease in my sessions. So much for never questioning what I am doing, but really I had no choice and you will see why.
It was about 6pm and I went to load my $4NL full ring tables and there were only 4 available. What was worse 2 or 3 of those tables had a percentage of players seeing the flop at 17% or lower!!! Really??? Are you serious??? I have seen drums made looser than these tables. Not to mention they weren't even full tables. I checked the 6 max and oh there were at least 20 tables going. I have no choice. I only played 402 hands tonight at 6 max. It's just not my type of game, never has been never will be. The 402 hands were worth a $4.75 profit, but I just could not get into my poker being forced to play 6 max and that was why only so few hands were played.
But if this is the way it must be I must simply accept that and do the best I can. When I have enough for live play I can go back to full ring, but for now I will do what I have to even if it means 6 max. I will try to achieve a point where I am comfortable doing this as well.
So how does this return affect my yearly goals? Not too much really. Earn rate should be higher so I will shoot for 4 big blinds per 100 hands. More hands played, but I am not going to set any unreasonable goals that I will have trouble hitting. I will increase the daily minimum hands for 6 days a week to 650 and a total of 200,000 for the year and I want to be at $10NL on or before Sept 1st. Simple and basic, but can I actually achieve it. At this point I'm not sure. Right now I'm not so confident in myself so all I can do is try.
One piece of good news is I pulled a 2nd place finish in the $3.30 PL HO last night for a $32.25 return. Still down in tournaments overall this month, but the cash certainly helps the situation.
Play well.
FD why don't you deposit some money on Black Chip Poker, you could always play a couple tables FR and a couple tables 6max. Just sticking to ABC poker and the money adds up.
ReplyDeleteonce Black Chip switched networks their full ring games pretty much dried up.
DeleteAt least every time I opened it up to play I'd see like one or two at the most....
Pretty much just gave up playing online when I saw that - though Saving my money for a rainy day

ReplyDeleteA good way to approach 6 max games when coming from full ring is ignore early position starting ranges per flop. It's just middle and late position, the early positions do not exist.
